StoryThe story of the Laurel Racing 1970 Camaro begins in 1968. In 1968 and 1969, Laurel Racing successfully campaigned a 1968 Camaro in Trans Am, A Sedan, and endurance races. As a result of this success, in 1970, Chevrolet Product Performance was willing to support Laurel Racing's race effort in Chevrolet's new "second generation" Camaro body style. Hiroshi Fushida approached the team and then became the only Japanese driver to run in the Trans Am, but his US career ended up when he broke the car. The car was repaired subsequently and returned to racing after restoration. It would be back in 1972 and ran in the SCCA A/S class and FIA events, then IMSA championships. Used by Larry Drover and Hiroshi Fushida in 1970-1972 in Trans Am, then in IMSA in 1973. Laurel Racing then sold the car to Carmon Salomone. Carmon entered the 12 Hours of Sebring, held March 21, 1975. Mechanical problems prevented Carmon from starting the 12 Hour race. He was a dnf. Later, the car was again modified and used Shafer panels. Carmon fabricated an integrated front valence / front air dam. Later, in 1978, he would fit a turbocharger on the engine but the result was not to be positive.
