The 24 Hours of Daytona belonged to Toyota, who finally won a long distance race. PJ Jones, Mark Dismore and Rocky Moran enjoyed Victory Lane, but the following cars were the two Ford Mustang Cobras driven by Tom Kendall, Wally Dallenbach Jr, Robby Gordon and Robbie Buhl, and the second car driven by Jim Stevens, Mark Martin and John Stevens. The two cars dominated the GTS class, and the Nissan 300ZX driven by Steve Millen, Johnny O'connell and John Morton finished third. The Kudzu DG1 Mazda driven by Frank Jelkinek, John Grooms, Jim Downing and Tim McAdam went on to win the Lights class. Dick Greer, Al Bacon, Peter Uria and Mike Mees won the GTU class in the Wendy's Mazda RX7. Ronny Meixner, Enzo Calderari, Luigino Pagotto and Sandro Angelastri won the Invitational GT class, in a Porsche Carrera 2.
The second race, at Miami, was won by Juan Fangio, in the Eagle Toyota MKIII. PJ Jones was second and David Tennyson took the third place in his Spice SE90P Chevrolet. Parker Johnstone and Ruggero Melgrati won the Lights class in their Spice SE91P Acura over Tim McAdam and Jim Downing's Kudzu DG2 Buick. Paul Gentilozzi won the GT race, driving an Oldsmobile Cutlass. Steve Millen and Johnny O'connell, both driving a Nissan 300ZX, took second and third place. Butch Leitzinger, driving a Nissan 240SX, won the GTU class ahead of Bill Auberlen in a Mazda RX7. Les Lindley won the GTO class in a Ford Mustang.
Andy Wallace and Juan Fangio took the Sebring 12 Hour race, held under tough weather conditions, over the Nissan NPT90 driven by Gianpiero Moretti and Derek Bell. The second Eagle Toyota driven by PJ Jones and Rocky Moran finished third but was a dnf. Steve Millen, Johnny O'connell and John Morton won the GTS class in the Nissan 300ZX entered by CCR. Tom Kendall and John Fergus took the second place in the Ford Mustang Cobra. Parker Johnstone, Dan Marvin and Ruggero Melgrati captured the Lights win over Bob Earl and Bjb Schader in a Spice AK93 Acura. Dick Greer, Al Bacon, Peter Uria and Mike Mees renewed their GTU class win over Butch Hamlet, Charles Slater and Bill Ferran in a Porsche 911. Hans Stuck, Walter Roehrl and Hurley Haywood won the Invitational GT class in the Brumos Porsche 911 Tc.
At Road Atlanta, the two Eagle Toyota MKIIIs driven by Juan Fangio and PJ Jones did another 1-2. They were followed by the Porsche 962 driven by Bob Wollek and Ronny Meixner, which was three laps down, however. Parker Johnstone and Dan Marvin would not change any habit and won the Lights class over the Kudzu DG2 Buick driven by Jim Downing and Tim McAdam.
At Lime Rock, same people, same results for the two first p:aces. Jay Cochran was third in a Spice SE92P Chevrolet. Parker Johnstone and Dan Marvin won again the Lights class, followed by Jim Pace and Mike Sheehan. François Migault took the first WSC win in a Kudzu DG2 Buick.
Mid Ohio again was a Toyota 1-2. Juan Fangio II and PJ Jones were four laps ahead of Gianpier Moretti and Derek Bell in the Nissan NPT90. Parker Johnstone and Dan Marvin were again the Lights class winners, with Jim Downing and Tim McAdam coming in second place. Darin Brassfield won the GT race, in his Oldsmobile Cutlass. He was followed by Paul Gentilozzi in another Oldsmobile Cutlass and Tom Kendall in a Ford Mustang Cobra. Charles Morgan won the GTO class in an Oldsmobile Cutlass, ahead of Ken Bupp, in a Chevrolet Camaro. Butch and Bob Leitzinger took the two first spots in GTU, with their Nissan 240SXs.
Watkins Glen would be slightly different, with Juan Fangio still taking the win, but John Winter and Manuel Reuter taking the second place in the Joest Porsche 962. Hugh Fuller and Chris Hodgetts drove the works Spice to an encouraging third place. Bob Schader and Bob Earl earned their first Lights victory at the wheel of the Spice AK93 Acura, followed by Mike Sheehan and Jim Pace, in a Kudzu DG1 Mazda. Darin Brassfield won the GTS class with the Oldsmobile Cutlass, Tom Kendall took the second place in the Ford Mustang Cobra. Les Lindley won the GTO class with his Chevrolet Camaro and Butch Leitzinger won the GTU class with his Nissan 240SX. Bill Auberlen took the second place in his Mazda RX7. Andy Evans and François Migault won the WSC class with a Kudzu DG2 Buick.
Road America was run without the Eagle Toyota MKIIIs. Dan Gurney had chosen not to enter his cars. That left the two Porsche 962s without any opposition. John Winter and Manuel Reuter won the race in a Porsche 962C, ahead of John Paul Jr in the team's second car. Paul Gentilozzi and Scott Pruett were next, taking the two GTS top positions, followed by Parker Johnstone and Dan Marvin, who took another Lights victory. Andy Evans won the WSC class, Bill Auberlen won the GTU class, followed by Butch and Bob Leitzinger. Charles Morgan won his first GTO class in his Oldsmobile Cutlass, and Jay Cochran and Davy Jones took the Invitational class win in a brand new Jaguar XJ220.
PJ Jones defeated his teammate at Laguna Seca, Juan Fangio taking second with Price Cobb taking third place in David Tennyson's Spice SE92P Chevrolet. Parker Johnstone-Dan Marvin and Bob Earl-Bob Schader were the Lights class 1-2. Johnny O'connell won the GT race in his Nissan 300ZX, with Tom Kendall second and Paul Gentilozzi in third place in his Oldsmobile Cutlass. Charles Morgan won again the GTO class in his Oldsmobile Cutlass, with Brian de Vries in second place in an Oldsmobile Cutlass too. Butch Leitzinger took a new GTU win, ahead of Bill Auberlen's Mazda RX7.
Juan Fangio took back the victory at Portland, followed by PJ Jones, while David Tennyson earned a fine third overall. Bob Earl and Bob Schader won the Lights class, Parker Johnstone and Dan Marvin finishing second. Darin Brassfield and Scott Pruett gave Oldsmobile a fine 1-2, beating up Johnny O'connell in a Nissan 300ZX. Joe Pezza won the GTO class in an Oldsmobile Cutlass, with Ken Bupp right behind him. Butch Leitzinger won the GTU class in his Nissan 240SX, Eduardo Dibos was second in his Mazda RX7.
At Phoenix, PJ Jones would win the very last GTP race, beating his teammate Juan Fangio II by one lap. Manuel Reuter finished third in his Joest Racing Porsche 962C. Price Cobb and Bob Schader finished fourth in the Spice AK93 Acura, winning the Lights class, followed by Jim Downing and Tim McAdam, who drove a Kudzu DG3 Mazda. Andy Evans and Firmin Velez won the WSC class, followed by Jim Pace and Butch Hamlet. The next season would feature those cars, a new era was born. The GT race was won by Darin Brassfield, in an Oldsmobile Cutlass, Johnny O'connell was second in his Nissan 30ZX and Tom Kendall was third in his Ford Mustang Cobra. Joe Pezza came in fourth place, winning the GTO class. Butch Leitzinger won the GTU class, ahead of Eduardo Dibos' Mazda RX7.
